Helpful Tips For An Organized Home & Office
Five Tips for a Most Entertaining Entertainment Center
Chances are, one of the places you and your crew hang out most (outside the kitchen!) is in the family room – this is where you likely entertain your guests, play games, stream music and watch TV and movies. It may also be a spot carved out for storage and your main gallery for showing off personal items and photos.
That’s a lot of pressure on one room (and wall) of the house, but not to worry. If planned correctly, your entertainment center can become a beautifully designed centerpiece that serves all your needs while posing as an attractive feature to your home.
Design around your electrical needs.
Think about all you’re going to plug in…from a television to a smart hub to a stereo and anything else you think you might want now or in the future. Will you want extra outlets during the holidays for decorating? While you’re at it, include access to various USB-size leads. Keep a list and communicate with your designer what you’ll require electrical outlets for.
Plan for the future.
Remember when a 31-inch TV was considered large? Not anymore! And who knows what tomorrow’s “average-sized” TV will be. If you have a cut out for the television, ensure you have enough room around it for your television to grow with you. Another future consideration could be storage needs – could you need more as your family grows?
Know what it will be used for.
We’re pretty sure you’ll want your TV front and center, but what else will you want to use your entertainment center for. Will it be a place to hang a sound bar and store board games, gaming systems, a record player, photo albums, overflow from other rooms? Will it be used to hold toys that your smaller kids will need access to? All of this should be taken into consideration during the design process.
Do you have items you want to hide?
Stored items you may want to keep out of view may be a large influence on how you utilize your center. Your designer will help you place cabinets throughout your center that are attractive as well as functional. You can even have some doors locked.
Do you have items you want to feature?
Your entertainment center may be a place to showcase photos, rare books and your favorite old-school LPs. Consider lighting to bring attention to your most-loved pieces and glass doors for the ones you want to keep out of reach but still visible.
