Helpful Tips For An Organized Home & Office
Five Tips for a Shared Closet
Sharing isn’t always caring – especially when it comes to closets! Who wants to add another person into the mix when space is at a premium or you simply just want it all to yourself? Closet space distribution is a reality for many couples and even some kids. For this blog, we’re going to focus on the grown-ups and how they can divide the primary bedroom storage real estate fairly and efficiently.
1. Start With a Plan (and a Designer!)
It’s always wise to start with some ideas ahead of time. Browse our gallery of closets, check our Pinterest page and peruse social media sites that may have solutions you may not have thought of yourself. Think about what both of you need and the space you have to move around. Does it make sense to have a yours and theirs section for everything. When you contact our designer for your free consultation, he/she will give you some great ideas too.
2. Design with Height in Mind
Maybe one of you is six foot tall and the other is five foot. If so, it doesn’t make sense for everything to be at the same height. Hang rods and shelves accordingly – this is the time to claim your own space that’s comfortable to you and what you can reach easily.
3. Can You Share Anything?
Do you wear the same size? Do you have items you both use? If so, consider putting these into one area you can both access. Do you have items you’ll both need on a regular basis like hats, scarves, belts? You can share hooks and hangers to save space for other items that need more space or belong to you only.
4. Don’t be Exacting in Your Space
Organizing a closet fairly doesn’t have to be a competition. Inevitably one person will have more of an item than the other. For example, if one partner has an impressive shoe collection while the other has the basics, the shoe lover will need more shoe storage. This is true for clothes that hang and drawer space.
5. Consider the Extras You Both Want/Need?
There are lots of extra conveniences and add-ons you may want to consider. Read these article – parts one and two – for some great and creative ideas. You can both determine together what will work best for your lifestyle, space and needs.
