Helpful Tips For An Organized Home & Office
Maintaining Your Custom Closet
Investing in a custom closet is a step towards a more organized and efficient living space. If you’ve installed a Cabinets Plus luxurious walk-in closet or a tailored reach-in closet, it’s essential to know how to properly maintain and care for this beautiful investment to ensure its longevity, functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Clean Regularly
Just like any other part of your home, your closet requires regular cleaning to prevent the buildup of dust, dirt, and debris. Dust and wipe shelves, rods, drawers and any other surfaces using a soft cloth or microfiber duster. Don’t forget to sweep and vacuum the corners and wipe down the woodwork occasionally.
Declutter Seasonally
Custom closets are designed to optimize storage space, but they can still become cluttered if not maintained properly. A great time to tackle decluttering is when the seasons change. Go through your clothing, accessories and belongings to declutter items you no longer need. This practice keeps your closet organized and prevents overcrowding, making it easier to find what you’re looking for…one of the reasons you opted for a custom closet in the first place! Consider rotating seasonal items by swapping out clothing, shoes and accessories or putting them easier to grab first.
Don’t Overload Shelves and Drawers
Custom closets are designed to accommodate a certain amount of weight. Be mindful to not overload shelves and drawers with heavy and bulky items. If you have a lot of accessories, consider supplemental storage options like hooks or organizers to distribute the weight. Maintain the integrity of your clothing and accessories by using proper hanging and folding techniques. Hang garments that are prone to wrinkling, such as dresses and suits, on appropriate hangers.
Use Protectors
To prevent clothing and accessories from coming into direct contact with the closet’s surfaces or excess light – especially if your closet has windows – consider using liners or protectors. Liners can help protect shelves and drawers from scratches and using protectors or decorative boxes for items like handbags and shoes can extend their lifespan and prevent damage.
Check for Wear and Tear
Periodically inspect your custom closet for signs of wear and tear. Check drawer slides, hinges, rods and other hardware for smooth functionality. If you notice any issues, such as sticking drawers or loose hardware, address them promptly to prevent further damage. Cabinets Plus closets have a 20-year warranty, so give us a call if you need a little extra help.
